1 - What is SimpleDesktop?

SimpleDesktop is a tool to efficiently access and control a remote computer.

2 - Why do I need SimpleDesktop?

SimpleDesktop has many potential uses but the most common are; Remote Administration, File Transfer, Multi-user Demonstrations, Chat and Distributed Development.

3 - How do I use SimpleDesktop?

In order to use SimpleDesktop you must first set up a SimpleDesktop Server on the remote machine you wish to control, then connect to it using the SimpleDesktop Client. For more information on this process see the Getting Started help section and the SimpleDesktop Client and SimpleDesktop Server sections.

4 - Why won't SimpleDesktop connect to the Server?

See the SimpleDesktop Server Help section, and the sections on IP Addresses and Routers + Firewalls in particular.

5 - Is there some way I can get someone to connect back to me so I can control their computer?

Yes. Just start SimpleDesktop client and select 'Listen for an incoming connection' from the Connection menu. Enter the port you want to listen on and then tell the person whose computer you want to control to run the 'Connect to Remote Help' shortcut or to just run the 'requesthelp' executable. Tell them to enter in your WAN IP and port (note that the port should be mapped as if you were running a SimpleDesktop Server). You should instruct the remote user to enter your IP and port in the form IP:PORT, e.g. '1.2.3.4:2603'.
