Tutorial - Transferring Files

1 - Connect to the SimpleDesktop Server

See the Getting Started section on how to set up and connect to SimpleDesktop server.

2 - Switch to File Transfer Mode

When you are connected to the server and ready to transfer files, Switch to the Remote Transfer Mode by selecting 'Remote Transfer Mode' from the View menu.

3 - Send files to the server

Once you are in File Transfer Mode, you can transfer files to and from the server.
To transfer files to the server, first navigate the directory structure at the top of the screen which will map to your local machine
When you are in the correct folder, select the files and folders you wish to send to the server.
When you have selected the files you wish to transfer, navigate to the folder you want to place the files in on the server using the directory structure at the bottom of the screen.
When you have selected the local files to send and the remote folder to put them in, click the 'Put' button.
The files transfer will start and you should see the file transfer progress in the top right area.

4 - Fetch files from the server

Once you are in File Transfer Mode, you can transfer files to and from the server.
To transfer files from the server, first navigate the directory structure at the bottom of the screen which will map to the remote server machine
When you are in the correct folder, select the files and folders you wish to fetch from the server.
When you have selected the files you wish to transfer, navigate to the folder you want to place the files in on the local machine using the directory structure at the top of the screen.
When you have selected the remote files to fetch and the local folder to put them in, click the 'Get' button.
The files transfer will start and you should see the file transfer progress in the bottom right area.

5 - Delete files locally or on the remote server

Using the local and remote directory structures you can delete files on the local machine or on the remote server machine.
To delete files on the local machine, select the files you wish to delete in the directory structure at the top of the screen and then click the upper 'Delete' button.
To delete files on the remote server machine, select the files you wish to delete in the directory structure at the bottom of the screen and then click the lower 'Delete' button.

6 - Cancelling file transfers

If you are transferring files to or from the server you can cancel these transfers at any time.
To cancel the current file upload (Put) use the red square 'stop' button next to transfer status area in the top right area of the screen.
To cancel all file uploads (Puts) press the 'Stop Uploads' button at the bottom of the screen.
To cancel the current file download (Get) use the red square 'stop' button next to transfer status area in the bottom right area of the screen.
To cancel all file downloads (Gets) press the 'Stop Downloads' button at the bottom of the screen.
